Living Room Reno

This post is all about our living room reno.

The picture on realtor.com before I bought the house. This area is NOT that big though, it just looks like it in the picture.
Another realtor.com picture.
How it looked the night we moved in.

Living room renovation. Knocking down a wall, painting the wood paneling.
And the day an anonymous person gave us brand new couches! Now we just need a beautiful living room to go with them.
First item of business was to get rid of the for-nothing banister. Alexis hated it being in her way as she came out of her bedroom so one day she grabbed my new pole saw I’d just bought and cut the post in half! Then ripped the rest out.
Next item of business was to get rid of this little bookshelf wall to open up the kitchen/dining room to the living room.
So cool to see into the kitchen a bit!
Let the painting begin!
Three little kids put primer on wood paneling living room walls.
painting a brick fireplace
Looking good! Now I have to figure out how to paint the fireplace.
whitewashing and painting a brick fireplace
I bought some brick whitewash and put it on those first bricks but it was too heavy. So then I put primer on the bricks and then took a rag and dipped it in the whitewash and sponged it on. I really liked that look and how it turned out! Most people are painting the whole things, cracks and all but it looks too heavy for me and I really liked the gray showing through.
All done!
Our neighbors built the TV stand for us, a friend gave me cute things for the mantle, and I made curtains and installed a ceiling fan.
Got some cute barn door mirrors and put dried blueberry blossoms in it and I love our living room now!

AFTER!

Renovations can take awhile and I’m generally an impatient person. Once I start I want it finished right away and move on to the next thing. But it took awhile for the living room to come together the way I like it. We moved in in June 2021, knocked out the banister in June, the wall the last day of July, painted the first of August, built the TV stand in August, bought the rug and shoe cubbies in August, patched the floor from the banister and wall in December, got decorations for Christmas, tried different curtains for months and finally settled on burlap in March, got mirrors in March, installed the ceiling fan in May 2022. Took 11 months but we love it! At least we have one nice room that feels cozy and put together. Not completely done as someday I’ll redo the ceiling and patched floors but not until I do a big remodel and knock out another wall.

Can I simply just say what a comfort to discover an individual who genuinely knows what they are discussing on the internet. You definitely realize how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people should look at this and understand this side of the story. I was surprised that youre not more popular since you surely possess the gift.
