Waiting for the College Kids
Kylie was expected to fly from Egypt to Raleigh on Wednesday and land at 1pm. So we spent Monday and Tuesday doing school, cleaning, doing yard work, washing sheets, and getting ready for her. But she had many flight delays and canceled flights, getting stuck in Bahrain and London and didn’t land until Friday night at 11:15!
The only pictures I took were of Sam and Andy sleeping in their closet after we cleaned it out (and they pretended to be chickens sitting in their nesting boxes) and of us eating cucumber sandwiches for England studies. The weather was beautiful and we couldn’t wait for Kylie to come enjoy it with us.
Thursday
We had planned to play with Kylie today and also have her teach us of her travels for our geography class. She also wanted to do a bonfire with us. We were all pretty disappointed and in a rut so I had us go work in the woods to stay productive. Physical work always puts us in a good mood. We had a great time digging out old metal pieces and figuring out what they were. I think we found 2 refrigerators, lots of car parts, and junk like shoe soles. We loaded it into the van and Thomas took it to town to earn us a whopping $30. I hate how much garbage is dumped in the woods here. I wish I could get it out in one fell swoop instead of working on it just a few times a year. We had a good time and came home happy for all we got done. It’s so fun to work together.
The last picture is of Thomas who also worked on building a high bar. He had taken off work to play with Kylie but since she wasn’t here, he made the most of his time too.
Friday
After Kylie’s flight didn’t come on Wednesday, she was supposed to come on Thursday. Then that flight was changed to Friday morning. We had our lunches packed and everything ready the night before. At 6am she texted that her flight was cancelled and she’d now be coming that night. Everyone was upset about this 4th flight change. I told them to keep busy throughout the day and they did. Thomas made a whole set of parallel bars! Kaitlyn mowed and I did a lot of yard work as well.
Finally at 9pm we left for the airport! We finally picked up Kylie with lots of huge smiles. We brought her home and got home at 2:15am.
Saturday
Thomas went to Greensboro to get Spencer who flew in. They got home at 4. We had a tasty English muffin sandwich dinner on the picnic table while waiting for the girls. Sara drove up with Madalyn and Alexis at 6. Yay! All 10 kids are home again! It’s been about 27 months. Alexis was so happy to see the chickens and ducks again. Some are new since she’s been here so she was thrilled to meet them.
Sunday
Family dinner after church. So fun to have all 10 kids around the table once more!
