Monday morning Lori stayed until noon and helped us in the blueberry patch. She’s such a hard worker!! And Mama too. It was so great to have their extra hands and positive spirit to help those of us who get tired of the constant work to do in the blueberries.

Garden Update

We also work in the garden for an hour or two every morning we can or about 4-5 times a week. It’s been our best year so far. But we’ve also put in hours of work. We’ve had the usual problems with squash bugs and a few hornworms and the deer have eaten some things. So it’s a constant battle but we’re proud of what we are growing.

Samuel and Kaitlyn love the 12 foot tall sunflowers in my garden box.

What the garden and pumpkin patch are looking like these days. And Tilly and Samuel carved their names in their pumpkins. Always so fun!

Delicious Food From the Garden

I love strawberry salad in the summer. We pick a bunch of lettuce and add some strawberries, blueberries, almonds, and some raw cheese. It is so invigorating!! One of my favorite summer meals.

We’ve also been eating a lot of squash, zucchini and purple beans from the garden. We fry them in a little lard from the sausage we bought from our friend and that adds delicious flavor, no need to add salt. Not as invigorating as the fresh salad, but tasty during all these thunderstorms we’ve been getting every day.

Drive-In Movie

A fan sent us some money for the 7 kids to go to the movies and see the live action of “How to Train Your Dragon.” They loved it! It’s only their second time going to the movies so it was a lot of fun. A few days later they wanted to go to the movies again so Andy made everyone but Thomas and Kaitlyn a cardboard car to sit in and watch a movie at home. I was able to edit a homeschooling video I was working on and the 7 kids had a great night together.
