Foods That Look Like Body Parts They Support

foods that look like body parts

Foods that look like the body parts they support is also called “doctrine of signatures.” And I think it is pretty cool! This is when a food like a carrot slice, looks like an eye and is also good for eyes. So the food that resembles a body part, also helps it function well. Check it out!

I set up a table outside with the food on a plate next to a picture of the body part it supported. For example, celery next to the picture of bones since celery provides vitamin K and calcium which supports healthy bones. I went around the table showing the children and explaining how each food helped that body part. They were fascinated!

Here is the download for a Google slide with 2 pages of pictures to cut out and tape on a plate next to the actual fruit or vegetable. This lesson plan also includes the 2 pages above –the infographic showing pictures of the fruit next to the body part.

How Food Helps the Body Part They Resemble

I could tell you why these foods help the body part they resemble. And I could explain the different vitamins and minerals they contain that help them be powerhouse fruits and vegetables. But other websites teach it better than I do. So here are the websites that helped me teach this to my children. One day I hope to update this page with a way better infographic as well as information about each fruit and veggie and how it supports the body part it resembles. But for now, here are some great websites:
