We woke up in Newport, RI to rain. Luckily it slowed down enough to go on the Cliff Walk, something I was really excited about. It was a lot of fun! We didn’t go as far as planned because of the rain, but that’s ok. Then the kids enjoyed playing at the beach while Maddie took pictures of things with her film camera for her photography class. After the beach we went to see Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts.

Boston and Concord

Next we drove through Boston and saw the Public Garden where the “Make Way for Ducklings” statues are. Everyone wanted their own picture with a duck, but I won’t post them all here. 🙂 We saw Boston Commons but it was raining and there was a ton of after school traffic so we skipped some stuff. We saw the Old North Church and then headed out of that crazy city. It was busier than Philly or NYC!

We drove out to Concord and saw Louisa May Alcott’s house, Emerson’s, and the North Bridge. Then drove up to Maine and back down to New Hampshire where we stayed the night. Here are just a couple of pictures.

It was again a very rainy day so we didn’t get to hike like I wanted. But we enjoyed a very scenic drive through New Hampshire and Vermont, stopping at 6 covered bridges. They were beautiful! Here are a few pictures:

Next we drove to Sharon, Vermont, the birthplace of Joseph Smith the prophet. It was also beautiful despite the rain, and a wonderful sweet spirit resided there.

We got up early and took the ferry across Lake Champlain, which was really cool. It’s something I loved when I was a teenager and was excited to take my kids to do. Then we drove through upstate New York and down to Palmyra. It was a beautiful drive! We saw the historic sites in Palmyra and then stayed with new friends in Rochester.

Lake Champlain Ferry

Adirondack Mountains

This was the most beautiful drive of our whole trip. I want to go back sometime where we can camp and hike for a few days.

Palmyra, NY

Palmyra is where Joseph Smith lived when he prayed about what church he should join. He was told that all the churches at that time talked about Jesus but didn’t act like Jesus. Therefore he shouldn’t join any. But soon Christ’s church would be restored just like He established it when He was on the Earth. He would set up prophets and apostles and restore the priesthood too. Joseph also found a record of people who left Jerusalem at the time of Jeremiah and he translated it into English and published it. It was neat to see Palmyra where these events happened.

After Palmyra we drove to Rochester and stayed with friends who fed us a terrific pasta dinner and let us hold their rabbits.
