Two big events this week. Anderson turned 10 on Labor Day. Then a few days later Thomas left on his mission. He got to take his first International flight and go to Mexico City where he’ll learn Spanish for a month. After that he’ll be fluent, right? In October he will fly to Colorado Springs and teach the gospel to Spanish speakers there.
We had a great Labor Day celebrating Anderson. We had a bonfire, burning brush stacked up all summer. Then cooked hamburgers and hot dogs over the fire. Andy opened presents and had pie and ice cream for his birthday treat. I took videos, but not any pictures, so you’ll just have to watch the video!
Good-bye, Elder!
Thursday we dropped Thomas off at the airport to fly to Mexico City where he would start his mission. It’s always so hard sending a missionary off. Thomas is so young. Missions are hard. Moms feel bad for all the hard days they’ll have. But I also know Thomas will learn a lot about himself and God and others. He’ll grow so much and come back a man.
Leaving him was a bit easier due to the fact that we got up at 4:00am and dropped him off at 6am so we were pretty tired. We went straight to the zoo after that, so that also made it easier leaving Thomas. The kids were looking forward to a fun field trip day.
North Carolina Zoo
The weather was perfect, the zoo was empty, and we had a great day walking around this beautiful zoo. The kids also loved the open air tram. It’s one of their favorite things.
Friday
Friday and Saturday we hung out at home. We packed up the rest of Thomas’s stuff and put it in the shed. We moved beds out that we had in the house when all the kids were home this summer. We moved Anderson back into his room. We did some school and yard projects. The kids also had plenty of free time to read, paint, play outside, make a chicken video, and crochet.
