The 5 little kids went to Lori’s for a few days this week. Thomas worked long hours at his job with Bishop and then went on a canoe trip where it rained the entire time. I worked on my business as much as I could while also writing homeschool plans, picking blueberries 2 hours a day, cutting the grass, weeding the garden, and taking care of the chickens. We had 4 chicks hatch before the kids left and 5 more I was checking on. Cinnamon and Button (the moms) started taking the 4 chicks outside and stopped sitting on the eggs so I was a bit worried, but 2 more hatched. One was a cute yellow one but it got a broken leg at a few days old and died. Another one hatched that was cute and brown. It was too small to keep up with the others so I kept it in the house a couple of days and took care of it.
I enjoyed watching the hens waiting in lines to lay eggs and thought they were pretty funny. They all kept me busy and I was grateful when Kait and Kenna came back to take over the chicken operation. They do a great job! All the pictures from this week are chickens, sorry about that!
- One more chick hatched! Four more to go! But only 1 more hatched. The other 3 were rotten.
- This little one didn’t make it. So sad.
- Two hens laying eggs in the same haystack and one on the ground waiting a turn.
- Hen walking away from nest with egg in it
- There’s a line over here too. One waiting a turn.
- Mama hens with their chicks outside for the first time.
- Last chick to hatch!
- Little Nutmeg chick. I had fun caring for it as it was the smallest.
- Nutmeg meeting her sibling for the first time. They were so cute cheeping to each other.
- Cinnamon with her chicks at the feeder.
