We had a great week with Madalyn here. It was so hard saying good-bye to her today but I know she needs to get back to classes and work tomorrow. We didn’t do anything spectacular but it was just nice having her here.
Monday: Memorial Day
We went to a friend’s house to swim and have a cookout. I mostly worked on a book study so I only took two pictures that look funny when put together, but there it is! Haha.
Tuesday: Worked on Blueberry Hill
Lori was still visiting so it was awesome to have her help as well as Madalyn’s. We got a lot done. We open in just one month!
After Blueberry Hill we checked on Sunny and her chicks. She was in the coop but wanting to bring them out for the first time so we helped her. Then took turns watching her and keeping the big chickens away who may peck them. Just wanted to give her one day of not worrying about them. Every time a chicken came near she’d puff up twice as big and look like she was going to attack the chicken. Also, her chicks would run under her. I hated to see her in constant anxiety over her little flock. So I enjoyed watching out for her and letting her bring her chicks out in peace without the fear of other hens and roosters. One time Madalyn, Kaitlyn, and Makenna read Harry Potter outloud while taking a turn watching the chicks.
Wednesday: Fairy Stone State Park
We took a family trip to a state park we’ve never been to before and had a lot of fun. We used my Mother’s Day money from my mom to rent a paddle boat and hydro bike for an hour. I’ve always wanted to rent a paddle boat so it was a dream come true for me. The kids swam in the lake and read on the beach. I sat on the grass under a shady tree and worked on a book study. It was a wonderful day.
Thursday: Ducks Hatch!
We worked in the garden in the morning then Maddie took Kaitlyn and Makenna on a little date in town. In the afternoon the ducklings hatched!
Friday: Duck Parade!
The ducklings were a day old but the ducks paraded them all around the yard in big figure 8’s. They quacked loudly and were happy for the other chickens to look at their new brood. Check it out in the video!
Saturday: Lion King Jr!
Six of the children were in the Lion King Jr. show as various savanna grasses, jungle plants, and animals. Thomas was the only one who had lines in this play. He was a hyena. If you’ve seen the live action Lion King, Tilly was the mouse at the very beginning who runs around and is caught by Scar. She was adorable!
After the play these 3 girls read Harry Potter and crocheted for Madalyn’s last night here. She flew back to Utah on Sunday night to get there for her Monday classes and work. It was a great week! Wish it were longer. It always goes too fast. Can’t wait for her to come back at the end of the summer!
