We had a lot of state studies this week and some fun projects. One day we used pastels to draw/paint Shiprock, New Mexico. Hard to tell, but the pictures turned out really good. I even made one and love it. Tilly also used the pastels to draw colorful trees. I love doing art with my kids!
Friday
A sweet friend offered to have the kids over so that I could get lots of work done. They had a great time playing games at her house and walking to the library.
Friday Lori came up and our power was of from 2-10pm So we played games by flashlight and hung out and talked.
Saturday: Groundhog’s Day!
Actually, it was only February 1, but the next day we would be fasting breakfast so we celebrated a day early.
We have a Groundhog’s Day tradition to make cream of wheat and the put globs of peanut butter in it to look like a groundhog. This year the cream of wheat was still hot so the groundhog’s melted before we got good pictures. But it was still fun! The groundhog did see his shadow so 6 more weeks of winter. We knew it because it’s been a really cold winter. And last year we had a mild winter and spring came early. I don’t think that happens with back to back years very often.
Saturday afternoon: working hard
We grabbed rakes and shovels and spent an hour or two raking the driveway. It is full of ruts from the snow and rain so we tried to level it out. Most of our tools aren’t very good for that sort of thing, but we tried. It was fun working together and just trying to see if we could make it any better. Plus, it’s always fun to work with Lori here. And she’s the hardest worker, so if she’s here, I definitely want to use her energy and strength and get lots done! Next time she comes we need to work on Blueberry Hill.
Nacho party and evening games
Every first Sunday of the month we fast for about 24 hours: from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. So after working outside we came in and had a Tex-Mex party while we learned about Texas. I made a delicious cheese sauce from scratch and we had nachos. I had planned to make taquitos and burritos too but ran out of time because we wanted to start our fast. We prayed for Alexis to get to go to Romania, Madalyn to go to London, Spencer & Maddie to get jobs, and my brother’s wife to have no pregnancy complications.
After dinner/starting our fast, we played telestrations and hung out together. It’s always fun to have Lori here.
Tilly’s hair trim
Kaitlyn trimmed Tilly’s hair for the first time and she did a great job! Talea is so lucky to have beautiful hair!
Sunday: Burying Emerald the Rooster
Our favorite rooster died Saturday night so on Sunday we had a little funeral for him. Kaitlyn played some songs on her guitar and read him a story. Alexis sent us her favorite memories of him and we all said goodbye. He was our favorite because he was super funny. He could play hide and seek with us. He made funny noises when we threw things. He was super friendly.
Afterward we snuggled with Lori and watched a church movie.
