Monday: Talent show at the nursing home
The kids had fun putting on a short talent show for the residents. See the YouTube video to see their acts!
Tuesday: Winter storm Harlow
We woke up to just under an inch of snow that melted throughout the day. But all day my phone said it was still snowing and that we got 4.1″ But no, no more snow fell and it was gone by night. I took these pictures along with a screenshot of my phone saying we got 4″ that day to send to Spencer. I think other places just north of us got a good amount, but not us.

We studied Illinois in school so we made Chicago deep dish pizza for dinner. It turned out great!
Wednesday: Winter storm Iliana–Ice Storm!
Wednesday morning we woke up to a winter wonderland of ice everywhere! It was so magical being surrounded by woods encased in ice. We walked around outside all morning just soaking it in and enjoying it before it melted. We also checked on our young trees and bushes to make sure they were fine.
The next town over from us got hit hard with destruction worse than Hurricane Helene. Trees down everywhere from the weight of the thick ice. Power outages for many days. I’m so grateful we didn’t have any destruction or power outage.
- Some large branches broke off this Virginia Pine
- Blueberry bushes encased with ice
- Young willow bent over with the weight of ice
- Getting the ice off this young willow tree
Friday: Valentine’s Day!
Kaitlyn and Tilly made us heart shaped blueberry pancakes. Andy made us scrambled eggs with peppers and sausage in them. It was a delicious Valentine lunch!
After lunch we sorted and counted 320 packets of seeds a fan sent us!! It was pretty fun. It made all the kids anxious to go start a garden. With this extra cold winter, we’ll be waiting longer than usual to start our 2025 garden. After sorting the seeds we all went outside to work. The girls scrubbed the porch and cleaned the coop. The 3 little kids and I picked up sticks and hauled them to the woods.

The gorgeous sky as we came in for dinner. Andy made us some delicious homemade tomato soup with popcorn for Indiana. After dinner we watched the Sweet Home Sextuplets Valentine episode. It’s the only Valentine’s movie we know of. It was a great family Friday Valentine night!

Kaitlyn made us buckeyes for Ohio. After the 3 little kids were in bed we ate some store bought Hershey chocolates which are our tradition.
