The Best Homeschooling Books to Read

Here’s a list of the best homeschooling books to read whether you’re just considering homeschooling, are new to it, or have done it for years. I still read a couple a year just to get me excited to be a homeschooling mom again. They remind me why I’m choosing to homeschool. These days social media homeschool groups are full of people afraid they’re not doing enough, have picked the wrong curriculum, are failing their children. Nonsense! You’re your child’s best teacher. As these books will tell you, let them learn at their own pace, choose their own subjects, and play outside as much as possible.

Best Homeschooling Books

Whenever I find myself slipping into “getting school done” mode, not enjoying it as much as I’d like, or not appreciating all the messy, creative things my kids do, I grab a homeschooling book from the library. I find when I’m reading books on the benefits of homeschooling I’m a much better mother. I’m enjoying it more and not seeing the annoyance of having the kids home all day. I’m only thinking of how we’re being like the families in the books and my kids are going to turn out amazing. 🙂 Some years I’ve had to read a few books a year to keep me excited about homeschooling. Other years our homeschool is a dream and I didn’t need to read any at all.

There are also many books on the evils of public school. I haven’t read them because I’ve chosen to focus on the great things of homeschooling, assuming public school was wonderful. I’m choosing to homeschool because I love it and feel it’s best for my family, not because public schools are bad. But if you need some additional reassurance that you’re doing the right thing; that your school is better for your child than public school, grab one of these books at the library:

Books Against Public School

  • Dumbing Us Down
  • Get Out Now
  • The Case Against Education
  • Readicide

Grab any of the books anytime you need encouragement and strength that you’re doing the right thing. Or schedule a coaching call. I LOVE helping women homeschool. I treasure the memories I have and am still making homeschooling my children and I want to help other families make those precious memories also.

Love this post. I would add Changing Our Minds by Naomi Fisher to your list 😉 It really helped me even after years of homeschooling~

I’ve never heard of that and I thought I’d read most of them! I’m always looking for new homeschooling books to read. Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll get it at the library tonight and add it to my list if I agree that it’s the best. Thanks!

You mention giving a consult. I’d love to arrange one with you. How do you take payment? I could send a check and when you get it we could set something up maybe.
