Nutritious and Satisfying

In wintertime you always want a hot, nourishing drink. I can’t think of anything better than rich, nutritious raw milk hot chocolate. Believe me, it really hits the spot! Full of protein, it will not cause the blood sugar spikes as hot chocolate made with water will. Raw milk hot chocolate also contains vitamins, minerals, enzymes, probiotics, and more. It is a live food ready to nourish, strengthen and heal you. With raw milk hot chocolate you are getting a delicious drink that is extremely satisfying too. I don’t know how else to describe it! You take a sip and it’s like, “Ahhhhh!!”

You feel satisfied instead of still yearning for something. It’s because all the vitamins are there and there is nothing more for your body to be looking for.

Vitamins + minerals + enzymes + probiotics + CLA & omega 3 fatty acids + protein + healthy fats=raw milk!

Add a little organic cocoa powder or dark chocolate cocoa and a scoop of sugar to that perfect food (raw milk) and you’ve got healthy hot chocolate!

Try it! You’ll never go back to the water and packets that are empty of vitamins and life again.

Step 1: Milk your cow

(Or buy some fresh raw milk from a neighbor, farmer’s market, or if you’re lucky, a grocery store.)

It is extra fun milking a warm animal while it’s softly snowing.

Step 2: Strain it.

I strain it into 1/2 gallon jars. Then screw on these great pour lids with handles. Refrigerate any you want to keep as plain milk.

Step 3: Add cocoa and sugar.

I add about 1/2 cup of dark cocoa powder and 1/2 cup of organic cane sugar to 1/2 gallon of milk. Sometimes only 1/4 cup of sugar in the summer when Maisy’s milk is extra sweet. You can add the amounts of cocoa and sugar to your taste.

Step 4: Shake it!

Cocoa lumps are hard to get out unless you shake it, so I follow The Santa Clause and make it “shaken, not stirred.”

I shake for like 10 seconds and then set it down, help a kid with something, text someone, then shake some more. Sometimes I just take a big swig even though it’s lumpy; I’m too impatient. Then I put it in the fridge and shake it the next time I want some. It’ll need to be shaken a bit every time you drink it anyway. Otherwise, shake for about 1 minute before serving.

Step 5: Pour into a mug

If you’ve just milked, then the chocolate milk is still warm. If you want it hot, warm it in the microwave or pour it into a pot and heat the whole pot on the stove, but don’t let it get above 100 degrees to preserve all the vitamins. Sometimes I heat in a crockpot and keep it hot a couple of hours while we’re playing outside or coming home from a cold night of caroling. I’ve also poured it into a thermos and taken it with us on hikes, to parades, and campfires. It’s so nourishing!
