After the big flood, we had 3 busy weeks–the rest of August. Mama and Lori came to visit for a few days before Lori moved to Indiana. Then Kylie surprised the kids by showing up one night. And she wasn’t alone! She brought her boyfriend, Christian! They stayed for 6 days and right after they left we flew to California for a family reunion.
Thomas Turns 19!
Mama and Lori were here for Thomas’s birthday, so that was fun! We had an early pizza dinner and then went to town to help the community with flood cleanup. When we got home we ate brownies and ice cream.
Kylie’s Surprise!
Two days after Thomas’s birthday Kylie and Christian pulled into our driveway and surprised the kids. Only me and Madalyn knew and it was so fun! Maddie has surprised the kids twice, but Kylie never has, so she was really excited to do so. You’ll have to see the video!
Thursday Kylie and Christian took some of the kids to the temple and then Duke Gardens. On Friday we all sang at our community jam session. We wanted to show Christian the jam session and every time we go we get asked to sing. We hadn’t prepared anything, so it wasn’t very good, but everyone loved us anyway.
Also on Friday we had a tea party. We all dressed up and ate fancy food made by the girls. It was so much fun! It was really hot with the oven on all afternoon and no air conditioning, but nobody complained and we had a good time.
Grandfather Mountain
Saturday we showed Christian Grandfather Mountain and the Mile High Swinging Bridge. I love Grandfather Mountain! We don’t go very often because it’s expensive even with a homeschool discount, so I’m glad we were able to go with Kylie and Christian. We had just enough time on the top to enjoy the views, do some stunts, and take some pictures before it was closed for lightning. I was so grateful!
Thomas drove some kids down in the van and I hiked down with 4 kids, which was really fun. Then we all went to the museum and eventually left for home. It was a great day!
Tea Party With Tilly
After Kylie and Christian left we had a couple of days before we left for the Hofmann family reunion in Yosemite. One thing Tilly wanted to do with me before we left (and while 3 of the older kids were at an activity) was have a tea party. She got a Fancy Nancy Tea Party book from the library and wanted to follow the directions in it to have our own tea party. (Even though we just had a big one.) We had a great time!
