After the family reunion in Georgia, we had cousins come stay the night with us! This is Nathan’s younger brother, Seth and his wife and children. They’ve never seen our place before so it was a treat to show them our property, try out the ebikes, pick blueberries, play with the chickens, and hang out with us. We played games and ate popcorn all night.
Talea Turns 9!
Talea went home with some second cousins to their house in South Carolina to play for a few days. She celebrated her 9th birthday there and they spoiled her with eating out, making a butterfly cake, and giving her a play cooking making toy. When she came home a few days later she opened presents we gave her including a cute dress Mama sent.
Happy Fourth of July!
The whole Fourth of July weekend was incredibly hot. It was over 100 degrees, which we’ve never seen here before. It was crazy! It broke records and forced us to sleep downstairs in front of the window unit. See the video for how we fared during this historic heat wave. I was a little depressed we didn’t have family visiting and we weren’t traveling. It was kinda lonely. Then to have this heat only made it worse. So we made the best of it by decorating with stuff my viewers sent me and making some delicious food. Then we set off fireworks and in the end had a great, relaxing Fourth of July. It was too hot for a bonfire or to cook outside like we usually do, so Thomas grilled us some hamburgers, hotdogs and zucchini on the stove. We had a lot of our home grown food and it was delicious! I put oats, quinoa and eggs in the hamburgers to give them a nutritional boost and make them extra moist. So the eggs plus the spices like garlic are from our farm. Then we also ate hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, apples, and blueberries and figs. It was all delicious and made up for the relentless heat.
Independence Day Sunday Photos
Every year since Talea was born we’ve done a line up with all 10 kids on the Sunday closest to Fourth of July. It’s sad as they leave home that our lineup gets smaller. But we’ll continue to do the Independence Day Sunday photos.
Blueberry Patch is Open!
Every year just before the Fourth of July, we open our PYO blueberry patch. This year wasn’t the best with the heat, drought, and bugs eating the leaves off the bushes. A lot of berries dried out and crumbled in our hands. But we did what we could. We prayed hard and did get some rain to save them. Then we worked hard for 8 weeks picking as many as we could morning and night to sell or put in the freezer. Last year they lasted 10 months and we ate the last bag just as the blueberries were ready to be picked. Perfect timing!
