1-24-26 Winter Storm Fern

All week we heard about a major winter storm “Fern” headed our way. The news was calling it “catastrophic” and “historic.” First they said our area could get 1-2 FEET of snow! Can you imagine? We got really excited about that and then scared when it did seem possible to get 2 feet of snow. Then the storm shifted and north of us would get all the snow and we’d get sleet, freezing rain, and ice. That was really disappointing and also scary.

We spent Wednesday afternoon making preparations including grocery shopping and hauling my piles of wood out of the woods and onto the front porch. We also brought a lot of wood in so that we wouldn’t have to go out in the ice to get it. It was all really fun. I love family projects like this.

Thursday night the kids had rehearsal and Thomas served at the homeless shelter. Then we hunkered down…. And got iced in and didn’t go anywhere for 2 weeks!

Winter Storm Fern!

Saturday night Fern came in and took her time leaving. She dropped snow, sleet, and freezing rain in our yard all night long, all day Sunday, and even a little over night Sunday night.

This is what it looked like when we woke up on Sunday morning. When we woke up Monday morning the entire yard was covered in ice. Not one snow or sleet part remained. It was all one big ice sheet. See next week’s post for pictures! And you have to watch the vlogs to see us skating and sliding all over our property!
