This week was prime week for the leaf color in our yard. It was stunning. Pictures don’t do it justice especially considering they have to be compressed so much. But all day every day I stared out the windows or walked around outside taking it in. It’s almost overwhelming how beautiful it is. Like I’m not sure if I could take any more beauty. It’s incredible. I’m so grateful God gave us so much beauty in the world and I’m grateful to live here.
Makenna’s Mommy Date Campout
Tuesday morning Makenna and I hiked Rocky Knob, an 11.5 mile hike. I’ve done it several times with Samuel and Makenna really wanted to see what it was like. She also wanted to beat his record! Samuel and I have done it in 4.5 hours but Makenna and I did it in 4 hours 1 minute! She was a great hiker! The weather was perfect and we were the only ones on the trail.
After hiking for 4 hours we drove to our campground and picked out a site. There were a few RV’s at this campground but we were the only tent campers (I mean, who tent camps in November? Haha!) so we had our pick of the sites. We had a great time camping together! Just writing about it makes me want to go again. It’s so fun taking one child at a time. And it’s so easy. Unbelievably easy.
We read for awhile, set up our hammocks, started a fire, cooked our taco meat, and ate dinner. Then got our pajamas on and settled around the campfire from 6-10pm reading and chatting in the dark. It was the craziest thing sitting at 6pm and thinking I can read for 4 hours. I never do that! But with it dark early there wasn’t a lot to do. I did think about video ideas and make some notes. And we talked a lot, but mostly we read our own books and savored the moments sitting around the fire with no other responsibilities.
In the morning we hung out some more and read and talked. I got some work done for my business but mostly spent time with Makenna. It was so peaceful and relaxing. We didn’t want to leave but we had to get home to pick up the kids and get to town to sing at the nursing home.
More Beauty at Home
We arrived home to warm temperatures and more beauty.
First Freeze
We were expecting our first freeze Sunday night so Saturday night we picked a bunch of peppers and tomatoes and carrots. Then we dug up some pepper plants and brought them in the house to keep them growing a little longer.
Watch the vlog for videos of our yard and camping trip! See next week’s vlog for pulling out the carrots in the black of night.
