Last Sunday: Dessert Baking Night
To cap off the end of our “12 Dinners Kids Can Make” week, we did a dessert night. It was Father’s Day and the kids wanted to make a new memory since they don’t have a father in their life and mine has passed away. And we have no uncles or other male family close by to celebrate with. So the children teamed up and made 3 desserts plus popcorn. Then we watched old home movies and had a great night!
The Rest of the Week
Since last week I posted so many pictures and videos, this week will be short. It was pretty low-key. I worked hard publishing a book study, A Lantern in Her Hand, I planned to finish in May but never did. Feels good to be done with that. Plus lots of other random stuff for my business and did a few odd jobs out of the house with the kids too, including helping someone pack their house to move, which was a lot of fun.
Tilly Goes to England
For 3 days Samuel, Anderson, and Talea went to a free England camp at the school. They really enjoyed learning about it because Kylie was just there last week! And she did a study abroad there last fall and showed us all her pictures at Christmas. So they were excited to learn more about it. I took this picture of all her stuff because Kylie wanted a picture of it. I’m glad they had a good time.
Photos with a Duck
Kait and Tilly wanted some random pictures of them with one of the ducks, Annalyn.
Nightly Work on Blueberry Hill
Every night we all took an area of the yard to water. This June has been the driest on record. We had so much rain this spring I was tired of it. Milking Maisy was always done in a mud puddle as her whole pasture was flooded. But it’s been very dry May and June so I’d love a little rain. Anyway, someone did the fruit trees, another the pumpkin patch, another the garden, another the plants on the driveway, and another the flowers. I went around getting all the Japanese beetles off the kiwi and grapes. Then we went up to Blueberry Hill and mowed, trimmed, and picked blueberries. We open for PYO next week!
Boys Drawing
The little boys were in a drawing phase this week. They spent all day Friday and Saturday drawing. I need to take pictures of their drawings. They drew every kind of Tesla car and truck there is and made a booklet of them. They also drew birthday things for Tilly’s birthday next week. Here I found them sitting in a tire and barrel sketching our minivan.
Friday’s Dinner
We had great weather all week (despite needing rain) and enjoyed eating outside. There’s something memorable and fun about eating dinner outside. The food seems to taste better and the meal feels rejuvenating. Like an experience or activity to enjoy instead of just a meal to make, eat and clean up. I get caught up treating meals as a chore to feed the kids, but eating outside makes it a fun family activity.
We also did a Day in the Life video of our day on Friday. We spent a lot of time hanging garlic around the kiwi and working outside, but it feels good to get those things done. Inside the house you’ll find a sampling of art and music shown in the video.
