Scrap metal hauling
Our woods are full of trash and metal the first owners buried and burned instead of taking to a dump. Last year we collected a lot of the metal and made two huge piles. Then waited until we could borrow a pickup truck. It’s been on my list of things to do for over a year now so I was thrilled to babysit a kid for 4 days this week and get to use their truck to transport him to and from school. Before picking him up the kids and I would load the truck with scrap metal and drop it off at the metal recycling, then pick him up. We did this 3 days straight! It feels so good to have that all cleaned up although I’m sure we’ll find more.
Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
Tuesday night I made grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner because Karston (the boy I was babysitting) hadn’t liked the lasagna on Sunday or the enchilada casserole on Monday. I put them on the picnic table then went in to finish making some for the older kids. When I went back out I expected to see kids around the table but instead I found them around the yard.
Tom’s Fawn
Thomas is keeping up the yard for an older couple who is traveling the country visiting grandchildren. On Tuesday when he was mowing he found a little fawn nestled in the corner!
Different Size Eggs
Our chickens haven’t been laying good lately. Either that or they’re hiding their eggs. The ones we’ve gotten lately are all different sizes when usually they’re about the same. One is super tiny and another is super big with a double yolk.
Kids Coming to My Work
Kaitlyn offered to come help me at work because I was crunched for time this week. Then Makenna came too. Since then Makenna has been coming every day and has been a big help! One day the little kids wanted to see my work and the little semi trucks that are there. So here are pictures of the girls helping me make, cut, and wrap the no bake cookies. Then the 3 little kids checking out the little semis.
Pilot Mountain
Thursday night Nathan’s parents (Grandma and Peepaw) drove up from Florida to visit us. We’ve lived here 2 years and this is their first time coming to see our little farm so we were really excited to show them our house and property. (They are temple president and matron in Orlando so don’t have much vacation time. Plus take care of Great Grandma.) On Friday we showed Grandma and Peepaw around Ararat (the 3 buildings there) and the bakery where I work. Then we took them to Pilot Mountain. We had a fun picnic lunch and then walked to the lookout. The kids played dragon on the rocks and Peepaw and I took pictures of the hawks circling around. It was hazy because of smoke from the Canadian fires so that’s too bad. After the knob lookout we walked the mile loop around the knob.
Putting Up a Zipline
When we got home from Pilot Mountain we got to work putting up a zipline we’ve had for 2 years but never knew where to put it and were waiting for Peepaw to come put it up. We’re excited he finally came to do it! While he and Thomas were working on it we sometimes helped them and the rest of the time hung out with Grandma and played with the chickens.
