Working at the Table with Tilly
The weather was beautiful so we worked and played outside all day every day. I don’t even have any pictures of us inside this week. I love the rain, but it was nice to get several days in a row without rain so that we could get a puzzle out and leave it out overnight. Tilly and I had fun working on it together. I sat at the picnic table and worked on writing a geography curriculum and when she got bored she’d sit with me and we’d do the puzzle. Then she’d go off and play with someone again.
Hanging Out Outside
Working Hard
We spent one morning weeding the pumpkin patch, one afternoon cleaning the barn/garage, and one afternoon planting new shrubs where a tree died and I cut down last year. We also did the usual mowing and trimming.
Cute Tilly Girl
Thursday Makenna made bread and Andy made peanut butter so that they could have homemade peanut butter and jam sandwiches. I’ve been encouraging the kids to use up the jam since it’s almost the season to make more. So they wanted homemade bread and peanut butter to go with it. Tilly wanted her picture with her piece and then we worked in the garden together.
Broody Duck Update
Here’s a video depicting the past 3 weeks of our ducks sitting on their eggs.
Madalyn’s Surprise Visit!
Madalyn surprised the kids by coming home! She got a red eye flight out of Utah Friday night and landed here at 6am Saturday. Lori brought her up from Charlotte and they walked in the door at 8am to the astonishment of the kids. It was so fun to see. And so hard to keep secret the past couple of weeks. Then we took Maddie out to show her the chicks and watch more hatch. She’s never been here when chicks have hatched before so I am so glad she got to see it. She’s staying for the play next weekend and then will go back to school as she’s taking classes right now.
Chick’s Hatched!
Friday night the first chick under Sunny the Hen, hatched! She’s been sitting on 11 eggs for the past 3 weeks. Saturday morning 2 more had hatched! A couple hours later 3 more hatched. Then the last one hatched Saturday night. One egg is empty, so it was never fertile. The other 3 we remembered aren’t able to be hatched. Something about the breed of chicken with the breed of rooster never makes a chicken. So really 7 out of 8 hatched! It was so fun watching them hatch and seeing Sunny take care of them.
