Here’s what we were up to this week, with the best news being Spencer’s homecoming on Thursday.
Sunday: Journal Writing Party
After church we gather around the table or the living room and write in our journals. We often have a treat or snack to make it fun. I help the younger ones and we all discuss our week. Sometimes in the moment the week looks like it’s going bad but Sunday’s reflections prove otherwise. We can see how God helped us throughout the week, the things that went right, the things we’re grateful for, and the fun memories we made, even if it does involve throw up or hard work.
Monday: Farm Fresh Dinner
Anderson said he was going to make a dinner from just things on our farm. He decided on English muffin egg sandwiches. He wanted me to go get a pig and raise it so he could slaughter it and make sausage, haha. But still came up with a pretty good farm fresh dinner. He made English muffin bread, scrambled eggs, yogurt, and a smoothie that has a lot of fruits and veggies from our farm in it. It all turned out great! And pretty cheap! Yogurt, eggs, and cheese are free. Bread was cheap with ingredients I buy in bulk. Smoothie was cheap with free berries, kale, cucumbers and yogurt in it. It was all delicious and made me feel alive. So nourishing!
Wednesday
The 3 boys are so excited for Spencer to come home. Then we’ll have all 4 boys! But only half of our girls. At Christmastime we had all 6 girls home and only 3 boys but for the next couple of months we’ll have more boys than girls. Doesn’t happen very often. The boys are excited about that.
Making cookies while the older kids were at an activity. We made them partially for D. Todd Christofferson’s birthday, and partially for Spencer’s homecoming.
Thursday: Picking up Spencer!!
Spencer has been serving a mission for Jesus Christ for nearly two years. He was not allowed to date, watch movies, play video games, do school, or other typical things young adults do. Missionaries work with a companion to find people who are struggling to find peace and happiness in their lives. They teach them about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ who love us very much and will help us with all of our problems, big and small. We’re proud of Spencer for taking 2 years out of his young adult years to serve people in San Jose, California. He helped with flooding, immigrants, the deaf population, and even learned quite a bit of Hindi as he served people from India. He saw so many miracles and had wonderful experiences amidst days that were long and tiring. He is awesome! Welcome home!
Waiting on The Front Porch of the Greensboro airport for Spencer’s plane. This is my favorite airport of all time.
Kaitlyn and Talea can’t wait to see Spencer again.
Makenna, Thomas, Samuel, and Anderson watching planes land as we wait for Spencer’s.
I got most of it on video, so not a lot of pictures. It was a happy reunion with hugs for everyone, lots of smiles, some tears, and lots of talking.
We had to take a picture in front of the sign depicting Mayberry, our hometown. We see people taking pictures in front of the statue in this picture every day.
Friday: Playing with Spencer, working around the yard
It was 76 degrees on Friday, perfect for the boy who just spent 2 years in California. We had a great day showing Spencer the chickens and ducks and cow, none of which we had before he left. He played basketball with the boys and shot the BB gun and bow & arrow with them. Talea and I put up more trellis wire for the blackberries. Kait and Kenna cleaned out the duck pool and refilled it. Andy put up the horse shoes game. Samuel cut pieces of lattice to put under the deck where the hens were going and laying their eggs. We all cut and hauled wood and branches from the woods. It was a perfect day!
Have a great week!!

Loved seeing your family again.
Poor Tilly and family. It’s always scary when someone gets hurt and bleeds tons.
Congratulations to Spencer for serving the Lord and returning home with honor.
