crock pot macaroni and cheese

Homemade macaroni and cheese is so much better than the boxed kind. But it’s usually a lot more work. Not Easy Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese! I love this recipe because you don’t have to cook the noodles first! Just dump everything in, turn it on high, and in two hours it’s ready! Couldn’t be easier!

Easy Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese Directions

First put all the ingredients in the crock pot:

  • 8 oz box whole wheat noodles
  • 7-8 cups raw milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 3 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 tsp mustard
  • 2-3 tsp salt

Then stir. It will look like this:

Put the lid on and cook on high for 2-2.5 hours. Stir after 1 hour and then 1.5 hours. Add more milk if needed. Stir after 2 hours and it should be ready; mine always is. (But if your noodles are still slightly crunchy cook another 30 minutes.) Add salt to taste.

Serve with a green vegetable such as green beans or peas or broccoli, and a purple fruit like grapes or blueberries. Also serve with a tall glass of raw milk and homemade bread, toasted. Makes a very nutritious meal!

  • 1 8 oz box of whole wheat noodles
  • 7-8 cups of milk
  • 1/2 cup of butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 3 cups of grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 tsp prepared mustard
  • 2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Put all ingredients in your crock pot/slow cooker.
  2. Stir
  3. Turn on high and cook for 2-2 1/2 hours.
  4. After 1 hour stir.
  5. After another 30 minutes, stir.

Notes

Don't cook the noodles, just pour them dried right into the slow cooker. They will cook in all the milk.

You can also use white noodles and white flour, but I avoid refined white flour products where possible, and this recipe tastes great with whole wheat. I don't think I've ever used white products actually.

Feel free to add more salt to taste.

You can use half water, half milk if you don't have enough milk. I use milk because it's a great way to get calcium, vitamin D, etc and with our cow I'm always looking for recipes that take a lot of milk!

My Crock Pot sticks pretty badly so that's why I stir it after 1 hour and then again 30 minutes later. Sometimes the noodles sink and the milk floats to the top so you want to keep the noodles evenly coated to cook.

Enjoy!! Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese is a favorite with all my children. It’s easy for any of them to make, even my 6 year old. Doesn’t take as long as other crock pot meals. Great summer or winter. Or year round, actually. I hope you love it too!
